Aug. 25th, 2008 05:36 pmI don't have time to write what I want to write. Today was a day.
Yesterday I spent most of the day and night with a good friend from years ago and her kids (uh, from less years ago). Yeah, me, around kids. Turns out I like them - and at least 2 of them seem to like me! I can't get over how well-behaved they are, and feel validated in that opinion when a neighbor came over who had just met them with his daughter - and just blanket invited them over virtually any time at all. He was clearly wowed by them. We were sitting on a couch talking big-people talk when the sound of their laughter stopped us both. It was such a pure sound, just laughter, no projection, no pretense, no issues - just children laughing. Conversation amongst the big people was amazing too - I am lucky to have friends with whom years change us and our lives, and yet don't change us. Fuck this sounds sappy...
I started my day today with my boss, who had been a tad short with me on Fri (when I was working off the clock on my day off) immediately pulling me into his office, noting that he was short, and apologizing. He did this before his usual routine of plopping his stuff down and reading a bible passage. I think his apology was the equivalent of having a few bites to eat w/o saying grace for him - a big deal. See, this type of humility and acts of concern are what make me happy to work for this guy.
I called opposing counsel, now that after about their 7th win for the reasons I said we'd lose, I've finally been given the authority to settle the cases as I requested months ago. I asked "So, are you ready to fold yet?" He was good - stated "Well I am, but I just can't seem to get anyone else over here to go with me on that." This is the guy who compared me to Colin Powell...
On the down side, the new employee is already doing the hushed whispers with the other blackfemale. My god people, do all government blackfemales have to buy into that fucking clique and associated behavior? She is educated, seems smart, and acts nice...but the instant glue to our backstabbing busybody is not my favorite sign seen today.
Decided I'm too fat so I'm doing more cardio even if it hurts my nonexistant gym program. My summer goals are so full of fail, but that's another post. Coincidentally, I bought lots of chocolate from Lindt...
