Jan. 7th, 2008 04:04 pmI think I might like Tennessee. And Georgia. I was driving to the plant, and passed a sign noting the beginning of the Appalachan (sp?) trail. Had I planned more time and brought some other shoes...not to say that I might not later. I asked about the trail, and like a DC native asked about a museum or memorial most knew it was around but never had been. Good god everyone is friendly, at least when the sun is up and the the sheets are on the bed. I'm trying to remember to make eye contact and say 'allo a lot.
I. Love. My. Job. First, this case is a winner as my witnesses are all gold and remember this guy, each having at least one fun annecdote about something he screwed up. Next, I was told about a sexual harassment case they solved by moving the perp from night shift to day shift...where his wife was working. Finally, I took an extra minute to help with the issue of an employee whom the plant reports jams his hand down his pants, then brings it to his nose and sniffs it. Somehow, ironic god feels the need to pay me for this. I watch tv to get stories like this...but no, somehow the fates blessed me with a good salary for this amusement.
The only thing I hate about travel is realizing how much DC radio sucks. You see, on the way back I stopped by big lots and then walmart to scope sale items. Yes I'm that cheap - so cheap I bought the chrome toaster I nearly bought in the JCPenny outlet in the potato mill mall for $20 for only $15 in big lots. In case you wonder how I scrape by on a GS-14 salary. But I digress...radio. I am listening to the heavier rock station of the two available here in the hills of Tennessee. First, the DJ ranted about how he couldn't believe there was a debate about which AC/DC album was better, highway to hell or back in black. Fucking duh, dood! No-brainer! He explained in detail, and frankly I agreed with his reasoning. Then I got to hear a song most mistake for a u2 song because in "bullet the blue sky" U2 ripped off the baseline from Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold." I fucking blasted fucking Ted fucking Nugent all the way back to the hotel, fucking (once more for more fucking emphasis).
I may get to come back, and if I do I may well book extra days in the hotel, research the start of the App trail (perhaps even learning how to spell it), bring hiking equip (i.e. shoes), and schedule some vacation while I'm here. No need to bring whiskey - they have plenty.
But why must DC radio suck so bad? EveryCity, USA, has interesting radio. Not DC. Not my home. Fuckers.
