Dec. 18th, 2006 08:15 amMyspace? I know a lot of people have left LJ for myspace, and in general I'm not unhappy to see them go. I did some quick peeks at myspace, and found it's like any other blog site except it focuses strongly on pictures, music, and other non-substantive gimmickry. LJ is predominately text based i.e. conscious thought. If you're in inarticulate boob who cannot express yourself in writing, myspace is the place for you. If your thoughts, when articulated, amount to no more thought than a dog might convey (i.e. hungry, sad, happy) MySpace rules.
That said, there is a market for that and I had no problem with it. Now, because myspace has just banned "sexual predators," the news is out that MySpace is owned by News Corp, i.e. Rupert Murdoch, i.e. Fox "news." So when you use, view, or pay for MySpace - you're giving dollars (directly or through advertising links) to right-wing causes. You cannot separate the two.
So I'm not going to support MySpace. I wasn't going to before, but now I have a reason to actively avoid MySpace. MySpace = Fox news = Right Wing. You can't use them w/o supporting Fox, Bush, evangelical leaders, etc. Simple truth.
