So once again MyYahoo's page has a pop-up banner ad that you can't block out. Every time I use the page the thing sits there for 2-3 seconds warning me that republican-sponsor-Macys is having a sale. I forgave a few infractions like this, but it is getting more and more common. A banner ad on the side or top is one thing, something that dominates my screen so I can't quickly access what I want is another. So despite my addiction to email, weather, the motley fool, reuters, stock information, and the yellow pages linked to one convenient site, I'm no longer using MyYahoo as my homepage. I tried to use google for a similar page, but it mandates content at the top of the page so I have to scroll down to see what I want - blech.
Anyone know of good places to customize a home page like that w/o horrid ads?
Ugh - and why is it whenever I try to do a search on a shopping search engine (like shopping under yahoo, or froogle) 75% of the sites that come up are fake hits to fake sites that don't actually have the product, but are just canned descriptions lined with hundreds of links to other sites? I don't want to support your stay-at-home-and-live-off-clicks-from-fake-website-spam habit! I just want the full Invader Zim box set (2 bids pending on ebay, wish I could just get it used)
I had a wonderful day off with pay for a non-religious holiday that I don't celebrate.
BY THE WAY AS YOU SHOP see this page http://www.buyblue.org/
I know, I know...but it's not just about democratic affiliation. They show who gives what to which party (you'll find most companies have a mix of both sides) but they also cover issues like: Labor & Human Rights, Environment, Employment Equality, Corporate and Social Responsibility, and Industry Practices.
Last hippie note - turn off your fucking computer. I turn my computer off when it's not in use, and the thing is 3 years old now and runs flawlessly. I have had people explain to me that they don't turn off their computer because of the horrible power surge damage that can occur through the chipset due to the powering up and down, that it is better for the computer for it to always be on. Well, it's better for your bill, the air quality, and our supply of fossil fuels for you to turn it off - and my experience seems to indicate that if such "damage" does occur, it is minimal if it exists at all. Power down plzkthx
