Jul. 20th, 2005 10:14 amOw. I just conducted an unemployment appeal hearing over the phone. The appellant admitted they were fired and even agreed with the reason why. They were up front and honest, to the point all my evidence and witnesses were redundant. I am sure we won, as we had to do as there was no reason to spend taxpayer dollars to give unemployment benefits to someone terminated for just cause. It was the right thng to do. Problem is this person just discovered in the hearing that they would have to pay the money back if they didn't deserve it. They should have known, were provided notification, but didn't get it. Now they've moved from a bad to a worse place. They were wrong and this is what is supposed to happen, but now I get to go back to my salary and easy life, while they are in dire straights. I take no joy in this victory.
