Apr. 13th, 2005 06:49 pmI was just asked if I'd be interested in helping teach the boxing class.
EDIT - should have elaborated.
The guy who asked me is the manager of Gold's in Rosslyn. He has hinted he wants to open his own gym at some point. Now I listened and watched a bit, and we have an odd dynamic there. We have the manager of the gym who has developed his own interest in boxing, and his idea of having a class has spawned a lot of interest from members - so much so that it's hard to teach due to high numbers. He's fairly new to boxing, but has a personal trainer and is very fit so he's learning fast. The other player is his trainer. That guy is a fighter, is psycho-fit, and makes it fun to learn. He likes to teach, but isn't really teaching the basics. He moves very quickly and gives little feedback to the students. I'm watching really big muscular guys hit the bag, and barely move it with their jab or drop both hands to throw John-Wayne rights. The manager is aware of this, and wants to train at the lower levels more. The trainer wants to act more like it is a boxing gym, which it is not.
Anyway he was just saying that he wants the three of us to meet and discuss, and I get the impression that the real goal is to hammer out roles. I don't have time to teach, but would be happy to grab groups of people in the class and send them through drills. I love to cause people pain...
