Mar. 14th, 2004 01:17 pmThe terrorist bombing in Spain might cost the conservatives the election, because the bombing is in retaliation for the leaders supporting the war in Iraq. The populace did not want to go to war.
Now, the war in Iraq might not have been a good idea, but my view of the situation is different. Perhaps Bush is an ass, but I hate the people that blow up buildings, planes, and trains worse than him. Wrong or no, the war was a military operation with military targets and goals.
I would expect that people would in fact support MORE actions against the terrorists and their allies in light of these attacks. Rather than let the terrorists create public policy by killing civilians, I would expect the populace to turn wholeheartedly against the evil of the extremists. Iraq might not have been the right move, but it seems less egregious an evil than the people who are protesting it's occurence with bombings. To quote me "I don't like us, but I hate them."
