If I get fired for looking at

I just don't care!

I'm now thinking of sticking this job out - it looks easy, if not 100% heartless. Here's the deal: I discipline and fire people all day, every day. This office does all of the disciplinary actions for the country, rather than having any participation by the Supervisors of the employees. We have no controls for piss-poor prejudiced ignorant managers, of course. This is one heavy-heavy-handed group as well.

I get packages consisting of a case file that has already been investigated. I either write up the discipline or review someone else's write-up. All discipline is pre-decided based on what happened, and if in the past 20 years they have EVER had ANY type of discipline. ie I'm giving someone a 5 day unpaid suspension for selling fund raising sodas for their son's team / church. I had recommended to my Supervisors a "Letter of Caution." Giving input here is living the life of a Whack-a-mole. The man makes about $30,000 per year - so this will be a very significant hardship for him. I feel just great about that one, whooo-boy. It beats the guy who was fired because he was arrested for smoking pot on the weekend. That's right - fed workers get their police records searched, no private life! I knew about this pre-offer, but post offer and for your entire career, wow. I had that pointed out as an example - I didn't have to process it.

These morons are absurdly harsh in their punishments, and I've already stated as much on more than one occasion. I've pointed out that Employee Relations is charged with rehabilitative efforts through discipline, rather than strictly punitive. Needless to say these comments are not falling on deaf ears, rather I'm being seen as someone who might not work out. Lovely. I'll sharpen my hatchet in the name of job security.

I will try and stick this place out, as it's a great opportunity for me. I get to prosecute employee performance problems, learn the MSPB route, and on removals I reference case law. This fits in well with my law school plans! I also am opening up a whole different career path in a job family, Human Resources, that is present in virtually all private and government entities. This combined with my EEO background will make me even more marketable.

I worry about not liking it here. If I find too many places that I don't enjoy, then perhaps it's me that's the leaking cup (leaking cups leak no matter how many times you move them). Still, I enjoyed my last job until the management changed - 5 years of ignorant bliss including the time I had the purple mohawk. Here, they have lost 10 people in 10 months, the Director (not my direct boss "Call me Billy") is a demigod-by-day who is famous for being an ass. He is currently having issues and attacking the admin staff. So, it may not be me. I'm sure I can last until September, when I may just go to law school full-time. I hate to give up my annual salary though. Decisions.

At least the trash / deadwood employees are being kicked out the door here. Now the management, that's another story.

I was about to ask why everyone was whining they could post when I made everything open...but I figured perhaps I better check my settings...20 minutes of going "duh - der, which way did he go" and I realized I had the thing set for friends only.

So, now I'm a comment whore! If you can see this, you can vandalize me! Whee!
