Dec. 23rd, 2003 03:49 pmI live within walking distance of the Iwo Jima memorial. There is a 21 gun salute going off right now. Another family standing in the grass, another group that lost a friend overseas for some rich white guy's oil war. Working by day I forget how many of these there are here now.

I think I'm a rarity in our scene in that I actually have a great deal of respect/awe for the armed forces, and actually like our country (though not our current president). Driving past the pnetagon everyday, and seeing arlington cemetery often fills me with awe for the people who died because they felt that they were protecting my freedom. (whether or not that was actually the case) Though I do have to say that I hope the situation in Iraq is over soon, and that we can actually have a positive resolution to the whole situation.
