D'aw. This is posted "real-time" as this is...everything in the house seems so new. This is a week of firsts:
First time I spent the night in my "new" house.
First shower in the marble shower.
First meal. First coffee.
First day I worked at home from my DC home.
Last night during the torrential rains, some water made its way into the kitchen at the new-french back doors. The guys arrived and parked their van in the back, staying there until 8. I turned on the lights "to let them know I was up / it was ok to come in," but I don't know if they were napping or why they came in at 8. Still, when I heard them come in - tentatively, carefully, I immediately came down and greeted them warmly. I pointed out the water and they quickly diagnosed the issue - they spoke in spanish and I didn't catch a word, but they were clearly concerned (I honestly don't think because I pointed it out, because they seem quality oriented). I told them to let me know if they need anything - otherwise I was going to stay out of their way. I just lowered the temp / brought up the a/c as they're wearing pants and going to be working physically. I may have to put on pants (upgrading from cargo shorts and flip flops).
I wear flip flops inside because there is still a steady stream of dust/dirt coming in from workers and even me with the back yard being mostly clay-dirt. This is SO not an azn household right now (I think I can say that? I've had multiple chinese roommates and done various versions of no-shoes with and without them :) ).
I stayed here last night so I could a) experience rain here, and b) to see if there were any problems. That was the one problem, and it was minor. Glad I caught it and glad they realized the problem was actually from upstairs...good thing to catch early. There is no caulk/seal at the new back door on the top floor (it's a full-glass door to the balcony) (holyshit I have a full glass door leading to a balcony!?)
I'm going to have to make lists:
a) things to bring to the house in my car
b) plan out not-car stage-2-move project
c) make plan for repair/reno at the old place
d) make project list for this place
e) make MANY lists of things that need addressing in the new place: i) need to happen now (stop water from coming into kitchen even if it wasn't a ton), ii) things in the near future (screens in the friggin windows), iii) things for whenever, but ever.
I'm so happy with these things. But, happy is tempered with some personal issues Veronica has to deal with. It's one of those times to be in full-on responsible boyfriend mode.
