Freak scholarship
Sep. 22nd, 2003 11:58 amDoes anyone else ever think of 'kicking down?' I attended a Hispanic history month ceremony, which included a moving speech from the Surgeon General Vice Admiral Richard H. Carmona. This is a guy who was a ghetto HS dropout who turned around, joined the military, and decided to and sucessfully become a doctor. He had a cliche I like "When you take the elevator to the top floor, remember to send it back down."
I belong to many groups (in my mind) and seem to be doing ok financially. Someday I'll be out of law school. I think of supporting scholarship funds, but don't know of any that seem worthwhile. Hell - I want to give money to international hunger funds, but most of them are xtian and I don't want to support religious causes in any way.
So...does anyone else think of freak scholarships? I have no idea how anyone would even distinguish what that could possibly mean, but the idea has occurred.
