Death of a thousand cuts

MRI tomorrow will cost about $400 (and I'm very insured)
My computer, loading a huge MS win 7 update, isn't booting and is appearing beyond my repair-ability without paying for help.
I got side-swiped in traffic, and while easily proven as not my fault, due to liability laws in this area will probably leave me both paying the deductible and being carless and on public transportation / lyft for a while.
It's time to buy a vent hood, ceiling fans, and a dining room chandelier.
My laptop is dying.
My tv died.
I got a memory card for the camera, but after charging the battery for over an hour it still doesn't react to the on button in any way.

Everything is broken. Everything costs money, and time, which is money, to fix.

Ugh. I empathize. When everything breaks at once it is incredibly frustrating and exhausting.

Disposable society too...nothing I own do I know how to fix, nor can I just re-wire the teeny tiny circuits. Steampunk world would theoretically have things I could work on.

FWIW we ended buying all our ceiling fans at Amazon because the lighting place we'd originally ordered from couldn't get them delivered in time. Turns out it was probably a savings of 50% going the Amazon route as well.

Dunno about DC but in Virginia (or at least Arlington) if your vent hood is capable of moving more than 400cfm you have to also install a fresh air makeup system which can add rather dramatically to the cost. Something to check on before deciding.

I've also had some Win7 updates take literally hours for the system to chew through. YMMV.

Ah thanks!

I haven't found big price differences between amazon, lowes, and home depot yet.

What fan-hood did you wind up going with? I looked up that term and read all the problems I might have even without the permit hitches possible.

Thanks! Kinda looks exactly like what I wanted, only hundreds of dollars more :D but hey, available. Exists.

It turned into a game much like trying to buy a mattress or some other product where there are scores of nigh-identical versions on the market. I wanted the maximum flow available that was under the 400cfm limit, soft touch controls ( no "clank" as a button is pushed in ), LED lighting or at least LED capable, easy to keep clean, and quiet. And not stupid expensive. And preferably from a brand I was at least passingly familiar with.

These are, strangely enough, also many of the same requirements I have for a mattress.

Did you consumer report and wind up with an Ikea mattress?

[identity profile] curvemudgeon.livejournal.com 2016-04-18 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I looked and looked and tested and kept the mattress I had until C moved in and I threw my mattress away.

This too may be my fate.
