vicarzAs I taxi'd home from the airport I enjoyed it. I think I look poor as I wait for the plane with my napsack, dressed in jeans and t-shirt, but I spotted multiple lawyers this trip in similar attire - heard them negotiating and talking about evidence on cell phones. I am not self-conscious to wander through 1st class on the way to the back of the plane. Getting off the plane I rush through the airport because I know where everything is, text and email on my work phone, and dash to the taxi stand brushing off the fare list they hand you.
It's not much, but I'm used to traveling for work. It all is paid for, a gift and a curse. At the same time, it still feels a little bit like a mistake that may be corrected some day. Flying makes me feel more mortal, used to it or not, so I tend to be a bit reflective while shoved next to farting strangers in close quarters. I might lose my job, my health, or both. There are parts I enjoy and parts I don't, but rather than let it all be routine or a burden, I try to make the time to enjoy what I have while I do. Who knows what's next.
