Thanks to the internet I know "Happy Holidays" is a "micro-aggression."

We could rename all the federal holidays to something generic, like Holiday A, Holiday B, Holiday C, etc. I'd be fine with that. There are 10 federal holidays in 2015, so next week's holiday would be Holiday J, which actually makes sense ;-)

That makes it mine!
I'll be starting the campaign to recognize other letters while simultaneously reserving websites for characters such as é

But my real name *is* Umlaut von Schwa you cockbites!

Cockbites is also a real name. However the Umlaut is registered as a stage name and we had complaints...

Just wanted to say I love your username!

[identity profile] curvemudgeon.livejournal.com 2015-12-16 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Danke. It's more a functional description than a name.

Last night I felt obligated to lambaste one of The Club Kids on the street for wearing a plain red shirt and saying it was for "The holidays". We broke into a store and found him a suitable sweater with snowflakes and reindeer on it.

Interestingly I read in a theology book that the notion of a "Christian Nation" per our "founding fathers" is a popular misconception. As of 1810, only 18% of Americans attended church. It hit 51% by 1900 and peaked at 62% in 1980. So the idea that we should "go back to how things were" would probably not yield the result its proponents would like.

NICE, you can't starbucks your way through xmas!

History has no place in USian politics. The constitution was written in a xtian church I just gnos it.

Actual history is not popular with conservatives.

There is a big overlap between the drafters of the Constitution and the founders of my church, but we run away from anything that smacks of Establishment.

...why is Happy Christmas classist?

[identity profile] vicar.livejournal.com 2015-12-16 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's sort of English, and only rich white folks watch BBC and PBS; hence internal reference, hence classist.

(totally in jest, wait saying in jest is kinda...)
