Jordan said the neighbors on Spring Street, multiple ones, called and complained about the impact on parking to his notice for dumpsters. He's amazed - he says nobody has ever called him about these notices before, and to him these are small and brief. He (says he) was nice about it but is marching forward - noted the permit is for 3 weeks but he hopes it's only a week. I told him about the community meetings and how many talked about parking. I might go by and let them know before it's pulled so they can have a free dumpster to unload junk in - and help smooth over any issues. Even my first instinct is fuckyou, but hey I'm trying to be neighborly.

I'm about a month away from making the next payment, 2 months away from moving in. Seriously, I'm going to live there some day?

At the edge of my mind is dog/security. A dog is a big deal, love the idea, but putting into practice will be a major lifestyle change. Do I get a security system up and running in the interim? I'm looking at things I can't afford to have stolen and realizing I won't have a secure place to put them
And shut up hippie, before any of my friends say no place is safe, I'm in a fire-not-possible building with 10-20 years history of no break-ins except: 1) ex boyfriend drunk (who didn't actually get in, 2) bikes stolen from laundry room. Now the cops might search but they won't likely steal my grandfather's rifle or the coin collection.
But Janna wanted to watch the dogs in the park, and I more followed and...my stupid heart did jump watching puppies bounce around, pack and split, chase and provoke chasing...DOG!

I'm facing a color roadblock - can't decide between honey or coffee/midnight cabinets in the main floor kitchen. I need to be making those decisions now. I realized this also means I need tile colors for the bathrooms too. I love simple gray, but slate gray is overdone now like (what's that stuff called, the cream and white speckle rock stuff?) so I'm sort of stuck.

So I really need to finalized my cabinet choices. However, Jordan amusingly told me he's getting all drawers for the cabinets (base) and uses them himself. I think that's an upsell but at no cost to me! So no plowing through cabinets like I've done forever. Seems slow close are a duh but I should mention those too. Also, I have a trip to the granite store in my future.

Love my master bath but the middle-room closet is tiny. May work on that, but the size and use of that room is the issue.

I barely got off my ass in time to do digging - if I'm going to put things behind the walls I better hurry. Also chalk - was thinking of redrum...but in a never scaring even a child way, like drawing a bottle with a label that says "Red Rum ???" or something silly.

He's decided to go with a contacted permit inspector and I've heard others say that's better too - though I have to be involved as the owner. Their inspections auto-pass the city, but unlike municipal employees they show up timely.

Porch. Yard. Dog! Big space walking of mine. Bathroom, mine. Lights. Wall - bricks to touch.

Regarding dog vs. security system, unless you are planning on working from home, if you get a dog then it will be locked up in the house by itself all day. Not only is this cruel to the dog as you would be confining in isolation a sentient creature with the non-verbal mental capacity of a six-year old (at best and only for the very smartest breeds) for the majority of its life, but whatever dog you get will turn to varying degrees neurotic and destructive to the house and its furnishings. I know people do this all the time, lock their dogs away in solitary confinement, but most people are mouth-breathing, clueless meat-sacks, and so are not the ideal template to model one's life after.

Long story short, get the alarm.

I'm more likely to have the dog. I live in a condo community where dogs live in tiny spaces, this is bigger even if he or they are alone. I've had dogs before and what you say is possible, but it's not what I felt like I experienced.

What's the floor in the kitchen?

(also, "main floor kitchen"? is there a kitchen on another floor?)

So what satisfaction do you get out of digging? Aren't you in the way?

Yeah I'm in the way - but I probably gave them a chuckle and it was at the end of the day anyway.

Uh, I'm "Mexican"?

Right now the main floor kitchen is a big board. I'm trying to decide what tile to use (but I've chosen to go with tile and not a bowling alley of a house).

There are going to be 2 kitchens - the basement is going to be an independent rental unit so it needs to be independent.

Well, without floor colours in mind, I think it's hard to figure out cabinet colours. Coffee/midnight if you have light floors; honey if they're dark. I'm a fan of marmoleum myself. But maybe that's dated. It's been a while since I was involved in the building/renovating of a house.

Unfortunately, the best dogs to guard your stuff are the high alert, high energy dogs that like to bark and need to be kept occupied. As they say on the Tee-Vee, "Your mileage may vary."

Didn't know you ever were - neat! I was thinking coffee/midnight with honey floors - but then I've got a lot of variance in my woody colors. I had to look up marmoleum but I have picked some tiles of that sort of pattern.

I kinda like the simple gray slate stuff, but it's so overdone right now it's hard to pull off without looking like stainless steel colored appliances.

Ah, fair enough. I am thinking of starting with foster dogs knowing I've never known anyone who didn't keep their foster.

tile can be hard on the feet. I do love my cork. I also looked hard at linoleum, but ended up getting my cork flooring off of craigslist for $100- I might have gotten the linoleum click-planks if I'd ended up getting the flooring from a store.

Colour. Put some colour in. Be brave. If you open a dental practice, you can reno and put in slate.

Coffee/midnight with honey floors sounds lovely. That's what I was thinking. Not some pansy honey, though. Blueberry honey, maybe.

Cork is out for me - I'm more worried about preventing water damage ever in the kitchen area. Cork is neat but I'm probably passing on it at this point.

Except as wallpaper tiles.

I could totally pansy up blueberry honey and I think I just earned twink points by saying that.
