Went to Best Buy as I've realized I put off laptop shopping so long that hte ship date may or may not make it available for school's start should I order it on-line. I fuss with computers before the last piece of advice and my gut tell me a Dell is probably a better idea. I order this

Intel® Celeron® Processor,2.0GHz,14.1 XGA
128MB Dell USB Memory Key
Operating System Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
Memory 256MB Shared DDR,266Mhz,1 Dimms,PC2100 SDRAM
CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service Add CompleteCare Accidental Damage Protection to 2Yr Lim Warranty
Primary Battery 94Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Hard Drives 30GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
Network Adapters Integrated Network Card
24XCD-RW/DVD Combo Drive with Roxios Easy CD Creator®
Modem Internal 56K Modem

Total Price $1,119.75

I hate Celeron but they didn't offer regular chips in this cheap family. I figure if I don't like it I can buy another in a year or two, but what all do I need for word processing?

Kelowna walks up to me from the isles tilting an ABBA CD back and forth, saying "I'll only buy this if you'll play it in your car!" I stare at her dumbfounded. "I'm a gay man. Like you could stop me!?" Giggles ensue and we check ourselves out of Buh Bye. Top goes back, windows go down, and ABBA fills the air. We turn to spin out of Buh Bye and head towards Route 7. Kid you not - the clouds part and a rainbow appears in our path.
