I'm not usually into ceremonies, but I absolutely loved the strongly worded speech Yoyoma put on. As jukebox noted, Aretha's hat. What was awkward for me was watching the horrible poem. Read. Awfully. By. That. Woman. So I don't know poetry and Janna does, so I had to carefully wait until she started loudly retching at the abuse of the english language that was taking place. Then I knew my opinion wasn't wrong. That poetry sucked.

What I'm really sucking up is my pride after the clothespin incident.

Poetry

Uh, thank you, I thought it was just me.

My tic started up about four sentences in on that pome. I'd've switched that crap off, if I'd been in my own house.

That poem made me feel like I was back in 5th Grade English all over again.

I'm glad I'm not alone.

and here I was all excited to hear that poem, cuz they interviewed this lady on npr yesterday or the day before and she'd worked SOOOOOO hard and had to write her little snippets of thoughts and ideas for poems down on scrap paper and tissues until she could get to her computer and type it up. then her husband would give her the "thumbs up or thumbs down" and that process was the same for this poem. she went ON AND ON about it. I imagined this amazing poem, cuz she'd be reading it in front of billions ~ SURELY it would rock our socks off!

and then... that. that was horrible. heck, I couldn't really hear what she was saying, because of how she was saying it. give me that poem, I bet you I could breathe some life into it, make it sound like shiny bullshit, instead of just crap. seriously tho - what a disappointment. NPR! YOU BUILT IT UP FOR ME!! AND I WAS SOOOO TOTALLY LET DOWN!! ;_;

Am I the only one who was moved by that poem? I thought it was inspiring and her delivery was perfect for the solemn occasion.

I wish there was more YoYoMa and less talking... over all.

The poet got pwn3d by the preacher delivering the closing benediction. That should be enough to tell you the poetry sucked. :)

My completely amateur opinion is that poems should caress your ear with sounds that lock together by rhyme or rhythm. This disjointed poem stuttered along and did not seem relevant at all.

Yes, I just wanted to smack that so-called poet. Was she reading literally a poem which had a
word
on
each
line?

Or did she so fear flubbing her words that she decided to address 1.5million people as if they were a kindergarten class?
