If I may respectfully suggest it--it isn't that you are needing the alcohol, but possibly that at a subconscious level you recognize that it is helping mute some of the hyperactive "brain static" you've had going for, to judge by your posts, at least 6 months or so. I don't see this as alcoholism just to say it quick--but a syndrome, especially associated with drinking alone but NOT getting wasted alone, that tends to be used to help focus. No, not an especially effective tool for study or productivity, but one that is part of the relaxation use of drink.

I think this situation with the wench at work has gotten your analytic overmind running around in circles, and that you've gotten used to shunting some of the analysis because you can't actively create a resolution at this point, so it just spins and cycles in the background. The drink is repressing this and helping ameliorate what might become issues of anxiety for others. I could be wrong, but it sounds very familiar in context of your continuing interpersonal and organizational issues.
