Normally I don't post about government idiocy, but this one is a winner. I'm fielding bb emails throughout my training, the first day of the week-long training I already missed for meetings with high-levels. I was informed today that because my bosses bosses boss is going on vacation for a long time, I have to return to the office from the training to prepare my cases (which were reassigned to me during my absence) for a meeting with her/them on Monday. The training cost money.

Now I just was informed that I have to travel from beltsville, MD, via our shuttle bus on it's schedule, to attend training in another issue downtown. The message noted that per the high-mgt official, anyone not in official travel status or on prior approved leave had mandatory attendance in the training session. Then a bus ride back. There is no incremental cost to the training.

To sum:
I'm pulled from expensive training to perform work in the office, that work is created solely by a high-level late-scheduled vacation, then my return to work has a multi-hour break (4?) in the middle of the day to attend mandatory training which is free.

I emailed my acquiescence to the order, though I noted the contradiction for the purpose of ensuring clarity. I also collected business cards from a couple people at the training, because you never know.

I'm also informed the raving rude person who has dominated our work since coming on board is now working directly with me on the family of cases I loathe. I will be working with her daily, including in travel status and during hearings. She has requested and is being provided transcripts of my hearings for review (i.e. armchair quarterbacking).

No matter how it sucks, work keeps finding ways to make it special. But. I'm fine. What's funny is honestly I'm learning from all of this, and I'm just getting my feet wet as a litigator. As I'm becoming more adept in litigation, I'm more marketable. I'm certainly going to stay at least until a) things get better, b) I get fully competent in my skills and position, or c) I am under consistent direct attacks or fear for my employment.
