Arguing that similar skill sets are required to perform both lawyer and judge does not actually provide any proof that a lawyer has the needed skills and perhaps more importantly, the wisdom and experience to be a judge. You yourself say that they have different final steps. That final step is the crucial one, the one which needs added skills and experience.
