Most commercials. That's the whole point of advertising -- sending people the message that what they currently have is fine won't sell stuff.
I kind of feel sorry for people who don't believe they have worth as human beings. That their only self-esteem comes from owning more stuff than other people.
That said, this past weekend we stayed with the half-brother of a band member who has a huge house, impeccably furnished and decorated -- well, except for the perpetual 17-year-old's room which I stayed in. What a dad, letting her and her friends graffiti those immaculate walls! Anyway, having those rare experiences makes me think, did I miss the boat on materialism? If my priorities were different, could I too have a house 20 times the size of my current residence? Or would I be sitting in that house, bored stiff because there was never anything to do in Sheffield?
Capitalism is not compatible with believing one's current financial situation is adequate.
