Last night I felt obligated to lambaste one of The Club Kids on the street for wearing a plain red shirt and saying it was for "The holidays". We broke into a store and found him a suitable sweater with snowflakes and reindeer on it.
Interestingly I read in a theology book that the notion of a "Christian Nation" per our "founding fathers" is a popular misconception. As of 1810, only 18% of Americans attended church. It hit 51% by 1900 and peaked at 62% in 1980. So the idea that we should "go back to how things were" would probably not yield the result its proponents would like.
